- The Racing and Football Outlook (RFO) Index is the ratings and rankings service printed each week in Britain’s oldest sports-betting newspaper, the “Racing and Football Outlook”.
- First published in 1909 the RFO, as it is affectionately known, has been bringing the hottest tips and stats to its readers for the past 100 years.
- The RFO Index was introduced in 1999 by then football editor Alex Deacon in a bid to objectify its football coverage and provide readers with a unique and, above all else, objective way to view the relative strength of every football team.
- The Index has spawned many other features in the newspaper such as its “True Odds”, “Match Trader” and “Season Trader” columns as well as countless other similar features in other papers and websites.
- The Index and it’s accompanying weekly article have proved one of the endearing features of the RFO and the archive of articles is available on-line for the very first time via this website which I started in December 2009.
COMING SOON (almost certainly)….
- I’m still promising that over the coming month’s I’m hoping to add a lot more of my writing from over the past couple of decades to this site including my Better Betting columns from the Racing Post.
- I’m also still hopeful that at some point in the not so distant future that I will also be able to re-publish here some or all of my “History of Football” encyclopedia which I produced for the release of Championship Manager 3 way back when. I’ve found a decent electronic version of the “book” and aside from ten years worth of updating that I’m going to have to do (!!!!) it’s a question of permissions to be asked and at long last it will be online. Time and interest permitting I might even do a printed version via blurb.
